Greetings from the Bull Durham Blues Festival presented by the St. Joseph’s Historic Foundation, Inc.    For 20 years this festival has been an integral part of the cultural and heritage of the state of North Carolina.   Many of you have been apart of this success yearly with delicious food, unique crafts and your great spirit.

It is nationally recognized as one of the premier Blues festivals in the country and was honored in 2000 with the “Keeping the Blues Alive Award” by The Blues Foundation in Memphis, TN.  This two-day out door event has become North Carolina’s largest celebration of the Blues, recognizing Durham’s rich musical heritage as an important center of Carolina and Piedmont Blues.  The festival has attracted as many as 20,000 “Blues lovers” and has over a 3 million dollar economic impact on the Durham economy annually.

This year in September there is a NEW DATE, NEW LOCATION, & NEW DECADE OF THE BLUES!  The festival is scheduled for September 19 & 20, 2008 and will be held at the Durham Blues Athletic Park located at 409 Blackwell Street just blocks from our previous location in downtown Durham.  The park is home of the Durham Bulls Baseball Club and owned by the City of Durham, our major sponsor and collaborator.  If you would like to view the site of the festival, please go to www.durhambulls.com.  We are happy that the renovations to the Durham Athletic Park are underway for our future use.  So we have had to make adjustments and are happy to move our location for this year’s festival.  The future looks bright for the DAP!

With that said you can image the work that must begin to guarantee our audience a top notch festival again this year.  We hope that you will work with us and join us at this new location.  There will be many changes and new opportunities at this new site.  We are expecting a stellar crowd and fabulous weather so we hope you plan to join us.

Please know that some of the planning for the festival is still being done- I don’t have all the answers now, but we will be ready for September when it comes.  Our prices are the same and our line up will fit the occasion. Applications will be given slots on a first come basis as is done every year.

Please feel free to call me personally to discuss your vendor participation if you have questions.  I can be reached at (919) 683-1709 ext. 25 or email at vdpledger@hayti.org

Looking forward to seeing you at the BLUES FESTIVAL!
